What comes first - the title, or the painting? According to Sharon, she's never short of inspiration and keeps scrapbooks of sketches, photographs and notes in which to record her ideas.

She also maintains a catalogue of titles which generally remain divorced from her paintings until the resin is dry. The final stage is to match them up. Some couplings are instant and obvious, others are more abstruse. Only occasionally does a title inspire a painting.

"Now and then I'll come up with a title that helps me with a concept," she reveals, "but mostly there's no connection until I've finished."
